Back To School Shopping Diary - Part 1

Its that time of the year, parents are getting ready to send kids back to school.  And with the relief of camp fees come the responsibility of making sure kids are ready to go back to school with all the supplies they need. Bring on the Back To Schools sales!

With 4 kids in middle and elementary schools, each one has a laundry list of items they need from notebooks to colored pencils to glue sticks and calculators.  One can easily spend close to $100 per child in back to school supplies alone. So this year, as in every year since I've been actively deal finding, my goal is to spend as little out of pocket as possible while getting everything our kids need and more for school.  I will keep a spending diary as well as occasionally post really good deals at big name retailers so you grab the deals too.

So far I've purchased the following:

  • 9 marble notebooks
  • 1 one subject notebook
  • 2 kiddie scissors
  • 1 pack of 2 erasers
  • 2 packs of pencil top erasers
  • 1 glue container
  • 2 tissue boxes
  • 1 roll of paper towels
Total OOP: $2.09.  Thanks to using Rite Aid UP Rewards and using a Staples Rebate card to cover the balance. Cash paid just $2.09.

I hope to keep our total expenditure under $75 for back to school supplies. Office Depot, Staples as well as Target and Rite Aid have had some great sales, so if you're looking for deals start with those stores.

Are you back to school shopping? What's your strategy?
