2/17: CVS Transaction Update

I did my CVS transactions today and was slightly disappointed.

I was to get 3 L'oreal polishes (see transaction 2 below). The L'oreal polish had always been $4.99.  Today, the price is now $6.29.  Can we say overpriced.  Now, it doesn't make any sense to purchase an over priced item just to get a ECB. So I didn't get any. If with the $4 off coupon, I can still get them cheaper at ULTA Beauty.

I wound up paying about $11 OOP, getting $8 ECBs. Still not bad.

Has your store increased the price of L'oreal polishes as well?

Transaction 1:
Always Pads 2 for $6
Buy 2
Used $3 off 2 Always coupon (mailed)
Pay $3 OOP ---> Get back $2 ECB

Transaction 2:
L'oreal Polish buy 3 at $4.99
Use 3 $1 off L'Oreal Polish coupons
Use 1 $4 off any $12 Cosmetics CVS redbox coupon
Use $2 ECB from Transaction 1
Pay: $8 OOP ($15 in to Beauty Club) ---> Get back $5 ECB

Transaction 3:
Colgate buy 6 for $12
Use 3 $1/2 coupons
Use $5 ECB from Transaction 2
Pay $4 OOP ---> Get back $6 ECB

Transaction 4:
ALL $7.99 BOGO sale
Buy 2 ALL detergents
Use 1 $2/2 coupon
Use $6 ECB from transaction 3
OOP: $0

On Balance and Being MIA

I've been MIA the past few days.  I've just been super busy with important projects and just didn't have time to post as much, even though I did post some things.  I try to get all my giveaways up in a timely manner, but other than that I haven't posted much.

It got to thinking about balance, and I realize while balance is a good thing it isn't always attainable.  Sometimes our attention may be skewed that we forget about other things. And that's OK sometimes, so long as it isn't hurting yourself or others.  Missing a few days of FB postings or blog posts isn't detrimental, so I allow myself room and space to grow. I understand that I can't do it all, all the time.

But though I am still engaged on my other projects, I will post deals, giveaways, etc...on Facebook as usual.  Normally, between the hours of 8am-8pm.

2/17 CVS Deals: Free Toothpaste, Detergent and More!

2/17 CVS Transactions

At first I thought this week CVS sale wasn't too great. Don't get me wrong, I think they do have some good sales, but no cash card this week and the ECB deals are just OK relative to others I've seen.

But, I put on my thinking cap and came up with a great scenario!   I used all my ECBs on the Charmin deal, so I am due for a $5 credit to my Savingstar account.
So with no ECBs, I wanted to come up with a low OOP scenario and maximize the best deals.

So, here we go:

Anything highlighted in pink indicates Beauty Club qualified deals.
Anything highlighted in blue indicates an additional savings from SavingstarIbotta or Endorse.

Transaction 1:
Always Pads 2 for $6
Buy 2
Used $3 off 2 Always coupon (mailed)
Pay $3 OOP ---> Get back $2 ECB

Transaction 2:
L'oreal Polish buy 3 at $4.99
Use 3 $1 off L'Oreal Polish coupons
Use 1 $4 off any $12 Cosmetics CVS redbox coupon
Use $2 ECB from Transaction 1
Pay: $8 OOP ($15 in to Beauty Club) ---> Get back $5 ECB

Transaction 3:
Colgate buy 6 for $12
Use 3 $1/2 coupons
Use $5 ECB from Transaction 2
Pay $4 OOP ---> Get back $6 ECB

Transaction 4:
ALL $7.99 BOGO sale
Buy 2 ALL detergents
Use 1 $2/2 coupon
Use $6 ECB from transaction 3
OOP: $0

Total $13 OOP, Earned $13 ECBs (plus $15 into Beauty Club and you're half of the way to the Savingstar ALL deal)

So it's like getting everything for free!

Since you need only $15 to get the $5 back from the Savingstar deal, I will be interested to see if we qualify for the deal even with the BOGO sale, since 2 detergents would be about $16.  At the very least, $7.99 will go towards the deal, it would be a bonus if the full amount of $16 completes the deal.  We shall see!

I will be at CVS bright early to do this deal. If you do it, let me know!

Everything on Sale, Ain't a Good Deal!

Don't be fooled! The job of retailers is to make you spend your money, the job of a savvy shopper is to get as much bang for her buck as possible.

Just because a store puts a sale tag or "great buy" tag on an item, doesn't make it a deal. As a matter of fact, sometimes this is done just to get you to purchase the item even though you could get a better value elsewhere.

So just be aware of the tactics retailers use to get you to buy, use them to your advantage because there are good deals out there. Keep in mind don't be enticed to buy based on what a retailer tells you a good deal is, be sure to do your own due diligence!

Do Couponers Have Bad Attitudes?

A new Ulta opened up near me last week, well not exactly new...just relocated. They held grand opening festivities by giving away coupons valued at $1, $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100 for the first 100 people through the doors each day.  Though, they were holding the event Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I was only able to attend on Sunday. Needless to say, I had high hopes of winning $25 or more.

So I went out on Sunday and got in line with the other hopefuls, the doors opened at 10am and I arrived just about 9:55. There were about 50 people in ahead of me...not too bad, so I had a shot of winning a coupon. When it finally was my turn to pick an coupon (they had the coupons folded in a container and customers could select their own and open it up to see the value), I grabbed a coupon, opened up to reveal a value of $5.

Sigh...

My initial reaction was not a happy one, after all there were others getting $10, $25 and I grab a lousy $5.  I must admit, I sulked for about 20 minutes! I thought to myself, "did I really get out of bed for $5?" I didn't purchase anything, because I was convinced I would have a lot more buying power. I browsed the store and left, my "puny" $5 coupon in hand.

Spoiled Brat Behavior...

As I was driving home, it dawned on me...why the heck am I upset? I left out the store with $5 more than I came. It's not like I passed up a meeting with a client or anything else that could have had a bigger payoff. If I hadn't of headed to Ulta, I would have still been sleep in my bed. And even with $5 there are a few items I could get for free, like Ulta nail polish which I do like a lot.  So what was my problem?  I concluded, that I was being nothing more than a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum because I didn't get what I wanted. That's not classy! Suffice it to say, I adjusted my 'tude and was just grateful that I won something!

Which brings me to...

I've seen a lot of bad attitudes by fellow bargain hunters, couponers, freebie addicts, etc... online. If a company offers a freebie and the servers crash or the freebie goes "too" fast and people can't get one, there are always those who leave negative comments. I've seen people get into arguments online.

As a matter of fact, Renuzit was giving away a free cone and people were just being extremely rude and mean because the application they were using to process the entries crashed.  I made a comment that basically said to relax and its ok, its just a $1 item. I made the comment to no particular person, but I had a guy come on my Facebook page with all sorts of mean and nasty words because of what I said. I mean he was just hateful, and I thought to myself all this over something that is $1? Something that isn't essential  So after a few exchanges with him, I realized how silly it looks and that I wouldn't engage him or his stupidity any longer and deleted and blocked him from my page.  Some folks are just crazy! LOL. I had no desire to spend any energy on that. There are real issues in this world, not getting a air freshener cone, ain't one of 'em!

But these are the attitudes that I've seen over very small and simple things. When Gillette Venus was giving away razors, I waited all day for one...literally glued to the computer. Of course, the 5 minutes I was not glued to my computer was when they gave it away!  I thought it was hilarious. Had I had something better to do, I would have certainly done it, but I was working so it was OK.  But I saw comments from people swearing not to buy anything from the company because they didn't get a razor.  REALLY?

It's not that serious

Of course, not everyone acts a plum fool. But I was really shocked to see these types of attitudes as much as I do. I hope companies don't stop doing these things because of people like that.

Getting upset over missing a freebie isn't worth the time or effort.  If you are missing important events in your life waiting for freebies to go live, you have to ask yourself is it really worth it. I know its not worth it for me to waste my energy upsetting myself over something I didn't get. Especially, if you didn't loose anything. I waited for the Venus razors, but never got one. But I have gotten others and I have plenty of razors (including Venus razors), so why be upset?

Have an attitude of gratitude. Bad attitudes do nothing but upset your spirit and throw off your balance. You can't attract good things if you're putting out negative vibes. Miss a freebie? Its OK! Don't win a giveaway? That's OK too! There are plenty that you will grab and other giveaways that you will win.

I don't want to be one of those people

In a heated exchange, Sheree Whitfield of the Real Housewives once said "who gon' check me boo?"  So I asked myself, if I have another "Ulta experience" how will I get a handle on it before I look like a nutcase?  And to that, I answer I am going to check myself. No sulking, no temper tantrums and no bad attitudes for me. It's not worth it. Getting free stuff is fun and it will remain so for me, whether I win, loose or draw.

What about you? What are your thoughts?

    Combating Acne Naturally

Hey guys! I'm coming to you with a very personal post right now about something I've been struggling with since high school.  And the reason I am doing this is because I know a lot of times I've been helped with many things but people who have been transparent about their struggles.

So, I'm going to be transparent.

Since High School I've struggled with acne and at 33 I still struggle with acne. I haven't grown out of it nor is it a phase.

Now, if you're one of the lucky ones who has clear, radiant glowing skin naturally read no more! LOL. Because only those who have and continue to fight the good fight against acne will understand what follows.

So, I've tried EVERYTHANG...yes, "thang". Accutane, several prescription medications, proactive, acne.org products, facials, eating certain foods, abstaining from certain foods, etc...

I will be honest, the oral medications that I've had over the lifetime of my fight against acne has worked.  They may make me dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out and give me extreme dry mouth. But for those who struggle with acne, that is a small price to pay. BUT, those same medications also treat very serious conditions such as...i don't know...Clamidia to name one. And when I realized that, I said to myself "what I am I doing to my body, in the name of clear skin?"

My doctor recommended Obaigi (i think that's the name of it) but at $500, I passed.

All the other medications prescribed by my doctor were topical and in conjunction with the oral medication worked well. But still, is it a valid and practical long term solution for me?  Why not stick with the meds?  Sometimes we pick the short term gain over the long term consequences   I for one, did not want to be taking this prescription medicine for the rest of my life.

I also tried Proactive, first time I used it back in 2003, it burned the crap out of my skin.  I tried it again in 2012 and it worked in calming down the incidence of breakouts but my skin still has tiny bumps, blackheads and wasn't radiant or what I would call clear.

Some people get a tiny acne pimple every few months, If that were my issue I wouldn't even be concerned.  But I have what you call cystic acne and its just not cute and can be painful.

2 birthday's ago, I was treated to a spa day and even the esthetician acted like my acne was the worst she'd ever saw...lol...maybe it was.  The other thing is that I don't have strictly oily skin, some of the acne medications actually tried out my skin. So I have this strange combo skin with dry patches.

My skin is much better now, but I am still breaking out. Even using the proactive, which I decided last month that I would no longer use.  Though, I am using the rest of it because I don't want it to go to waste.

I know there are those who have worse acne than I, but for me, its an issue that needs to be fixed.  In addition, 80% of the time, a pimple will leave a dark mark on my skin even if I handle it with the utmost care.

    A change is gonna come...

Instead of ingesting massive medicines and spending loads of money on products that do more harm over the long run than good. I am starting to make a change in my daily lifestyle.  I believe that I can eliminate or at least greatly reduce my acne the natural way.

    Hormones

My acne is largely hormonal. This I have come to realize. My skin has behaved when my diet consisted of mainly fruits and vegetables.  Dairy and things with hormones in it can trigger my acne. I don't yet know how much is too much, meaning  I don't know what my tolerance level is for these foods. I don't quite understand how much I can eat of this without triggering acne. These things are almost like they are toxic to my body.  So my decision is to go the natural route of clearing my skin...even if that means limiting some of the things I love such as cheese. Now, lots of foods have hormones, but its growth hormones that are added to meat and poultry that I need to stay clear of. It's just not good for the body.

    Fiber

I'm adding more fiber to my diet. And right now, that includes adding a packet of benefiber to my water daily. I'm starting with that since that is what I have on hand.

    Water

I've been drinking about 4 water bottles a day. Which is good. But I'm upping it to 6. I need to make sure I am properly flushing out my insides to help "bad stuff" not build up that may trigger an outbreak or anything else undesirable for that matter.

    Wrapping up...

This is the beginning of a journey, but one well worth it.  I hope to update once a week on my progress and get some pictures up that will document my progress.

Do you suffer from acne? Feel free to share your experience and what has (or hasn't worked for you).
